Kazuhiro Shizuya, the owner-bartender of "Shinjuku Whisky Salon" and "Bar Rivet" in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, has achieved the "Master of Whisky" certification, the most challenging qualification recognized by the Whisky Culture Research Institute. Driven by the urge to develop a glass that maximizes the robust flavors of whisky, he created the "Tsubomi Glass," a tasting glass designed to allow whisky enthusiasts to savor the richness of whisky fully. The glass aims to foster a habit of using different glasses suited to different whisky flavors, enhancing the appreciation of whisky and providing an opportunity to engage deeply with it. The Tsubomi Glass ensures that even a half-shot offers the same intensity and depth as a full shot.

A Glass That Pursues the Strength of Whiskey

Because this glass is designed to pursue the strength of whiskey, it is suitable not only for seasoned connoisseurs but also for those who enjoy a robust flavor even in small quantities. It is ideal for half shots, making it perfect for those who find a full shot too challenging or who wish to sample various whiskeys in smaller amounts.

[Characteristics of glass]

⚫︎Enjoying Richness to the Last Drop, Even with Half Shots

With this glass, you can enjoy the full-bodied richness of whiskey to the last drop, even with half shots. The wide surface area of the whiskey is maintained from start to finish, preserving its aromatic qualities. It's also easy to swirl, allowing you to savor the evolving aroma from the first sip to the last. This gradual release of the whiskey's potential, much like a flower blooming from a bud, makes this glass perfect for extended contemplation of your drink.

⚫︎Direct and Robust Flavor from a Narrow Rim

The bud-like shape of the glass concentrates the aroma, allowing you to experience the whiskey's characteristics directly. The close proximity of the liquid surface to your nose ensures that the initial impact is strong and remains powerful until the end. You can fully appreciate the whiskey's viscosity, providing a satisfying experience even with half shots. This glass enhances not only the alcohol content but also the woody notes from the barrel, peat, and sweetness, depending on the whiskey. It amplifies the whiskey's features, creating a rich, full-bodied experience, encouraging you to savor each sip.

⚫︎Inheriting the Merits of the Saki Glassy

The Tsubomi glass inherits the excellent qualities of the Saki glass, such as its size (height and stem length) and its extraordinary lightness. Like the Saki glass, the Tsubomi glass prevents rapid temperature changes in the whiskey by ensuring that your hand does not directly touch the bowl. The stem is slender enough to create a floating sensation for the liquid, and the glass is so light that it feels extraordinary. This lightness allows you to hold the glass for extended periods without tiring your hand, enabling you to fully enjoy your whiskey at leisure.

*Notes

This tasting glass is handmade by skilled glass artisans in Japan using the traditional method of blown glass. Unlike mass-produced items, each piece has slight variations in shape, creating a unique individuality. Please understand that this uniqueness is a characteristic of handcrafted items. Additionally, due to the nature of the blown glass technique, it is common for bubbles to form within the glass. We hope you can appreciate these bubbles as part of the glass’s unique character. Think of them as akin to moles on a person, adding to its individuality. We hope you will come to cherish this aspect. Thank you for your understanding and consideration when purchasing.
